Chord Substitutions Help
Yes, I know you can do whatever you want, but sometimes it's nice to have a very easy replacement to start from. Also, I realize this is like 1% of music theory.
| Chord | Replacement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| I/i | I/isus2 | Remove the 3rd, add 2nd |
| I/i | I/isus4 | Remove the 3rd, add 4th |
| I/i | I/i9 | Not an “add9” - don't add 7th |
| Imaj7 | iii | |
| I | vi | |
| I → V7 | I → II7 → V7 | Secondary Dominant, the added chord is the V7 of the chord that follows it. |
| I → vi | I → III7 → vi | Secondary Dominant again - adds importance to the chord that follows it. |
| 7 | sus4 | Remove the 7th, add the 4th |
